Hello! My name is Claire and I firmly believe in music's power to inspire, challenge, and empower us as individuals and communities.
In the last seventeen years of performing everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the back of a boat in the middle of a lake in Minnesota, I’ve learned a LOT about practicing, playing, and loving the flute, and I am excited to help you achieve your flutistic goals and dreams.
I teach flute lessons to beginners, advanced high schoolers, collegiate level students, adult amateurs, and people at all stages in their flute journey both on Zoom and in-person.
Each flute lesson is catered to the individual student, depending on your level, age, and goals.
As a teacher, my core values are...

Middle school is when many students start their flute journey! There are so many exciting things to discover and it is a wonderful time to establish healthy habits.
In lessons we will focus on the fundamentals of flute playing and musicianship, including...
-
how to hold the flute
-
how to make a beautiful tone (for a sparkling and singing sound)
-
understanding how to read music
Lessons also involve elements of Dalcroze Eurhythmics and Alexander Technique to establish a strong sense of internal rhythm and kinesthetic awareness that are superpowers as a musician.
Students at this level will be working through a single method book and will be given solos and other exercises that fit their specific level of playing.
Recommended Lesson Length: 30 or 45 minutes

During my first lesson, I was immediately taken by Claire's passion, energy, and insights. I came out of every lesson feeling like I learned a lot, and I enjoyed seeing the variety of techniques and explanations that Claire would put forward. She is such a kind, effective, and patient teacher whose passion for the flute inspires many- I could not recommend her enough!

Claire was my very first flute instructor. She inspired me to play the flute after hearing her perform many times. I love listening to her play! Even though she knows a lot about the flute, she made it easy for me to learn about my instrument, how to hold it properly and how to create music out of it. I really like the way Claire teaches me, she is so kind and caring and makes it fun to learn! I am so lucky have been able to take lessons from her!
Julie, Parent
My daughter enjoys weekly flute lessons and has steadily improved her existing skills while developing new techniques. Because of Claire’s patient, adept instruction, my daughter realized a noticeable improvement in her skill and confidence. We are very fortunate to have such a highly skilled individual willing to provide top-notch instruction at an affordable rate. We highly recommend Claire as a flute instructor for students of any age!
The best way to get a sense of my teaching style is to experience it for yourself.
